 Melatonin is the most powerful endogenous free radical scavenger known at present. Its free radical scavenging ability is 2 times of VE, 4 times of glutathione and 14 times of mannitol. The results showed that melatonin had a strong antioxidant effect on streptozotocin induced diabetes in rats, and decreased blood glucose and fructosamine. Melatonin also plays a role in some organs.
